Backup and Recovery
Backup and Recovery
Managed backup solutions serve to greatly reduce the risk of catastrophic failure to your hosting architecture.
iomart’s Managed Backup solution stores the data on a centrally managed storage solution so that if the client’s hardware does fail, their data can be easily restored to new or repaired hardware.
We use a variety of software solutions to create and manage backup/recovery solutions including:
| DAS: Direct Attached Storage such as a storage array connected to your client infrastructure. |
| NAS: Network Attached Storage owned by us which provides secure & resilient shared storage facilities |
| SAN: Storage Area Network facilities via Fibre Channel allows for the fastest & most resilient storage area |
| Tape: Tape solutions can be provided on request. |
A sample Product and service array would include:
| Types of Solution | Back up speed | Restore speed | Price |
| Daily Full | Low | High | High |
| Weekly Full + Daily Differential | Mid/High | Mid/High | Mid/High |
| Weekly Full + Daily Incremental | High | Low/Mid | Low/Mid |
| Weekly Full Only | Low/Mid | High | Low |
| Customised | Variable | Variable | Variable |
Definitions |
|||
| Full Backup: Backup of all files and folders in the backup set regardless of their last backup or change | |||
| Differential Backup: A daily backup of all files that have changed since the last full backup | |||
| Incremental Backup: A backup of all files that have changed since the backup (i.e. any backup) | |||
| Retention Periods: The amount of time that data backed up will be stored on tape and kept | |||
| Backup Set: Specified data to be backed up for any such server | |||
iomart manages the entire solution, including initial set up and configuration, tracking failures and routine changes to the Backup configuration. Data backups are performed from all servers and onto your chosen media as opposed to local drive partitions.
